These pictures are a very proud moment for Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc.  We presented every fire department in Coos County with a complete set of animal resecatation masks to help save the lives of dogs and cats and other small animals who suffer from smoke inhalation in a house fire.

Furry Friends provide certified therapy canines for visitation to various assisted living facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, shut-ins in private residences and schools!

Furry Friends was founded by a group of like-minded people who were involved in visits to several local caregiving facilities.  This venture in time, evolved into an organization.  This organization, Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc., also recruit, evaluate and train other volunteers and their animals for therapy work. 

This is the “Marge Barney Memorial Dogwood Tree” planted in the backyard at CCAS (Coos County Animal Shelter).  Marge was one of the Charter Members of Furry Friends.  Marge’s two Queensland Heelers, Rocky and Willie, were adopted by a wonderful couple in Coquille!

Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc., is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization.  We do not accept monetary reimbursement for any of the services our members provide.  However, donations donations may be accepted and are tax deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Goals of Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc.: 

*Recruit members and their pet dogs.

*Evaluate the team

*Conduct training for handlers and dogs

*Research need for visitations at various facilities.

*Provide education to local schools.

Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc., has outreach programs to educate the public as to the benefits and purpose of Furry Friends.  This Includes:      Media Advertising and Presentations to local civic groups.

Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc., meetings are open to the public and are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

 Visitors are always welcome!

Meetings are held at the Bay Area Community Health and Education Center (CHEC Building), 3950 Sherman Ave, Coos Bay, OR  97420.    Two classes of membership:  Support membership and Team membership.  Support members have the same rights and responsibilities as Team members except as pertains to Team visitations.

Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc. Team Requirements:   Before a dog may visit a facility, the dog must:                      Be at least six months of age      Pass the AKC’s canine good citizen test.    The owner must complete an application and pay dues to join Furry Friends TDI.    Both purebred and mixed breeds are welcome!      Obedient, socialized and well mannered attitude are the main factors for therapy dogs.     Only a member whose dues are paid and their qualified dog may visit facilities.   For More Info Please Contact:   Connie 269-7667 or Ramona, 269-2876.



April 26 at New Horizons Church of God, 11:30a.m.  Furry Friends will be presenting their “Dog Safety and Responsibility Program.”  This is the same program they teach at Elementary Schools.  Aimed at Children in Kindergarten through Grade 4. 

Furry Friends invites all children to come and meet the Furry Friends team and listen to the presentation!


May 9th,  11:30a.m. to 1:30p.m.  Furry Friends is offering the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test, under Coos Bay City Hall in the Parking structure.  There is a $10 fee for test.
